Sunnyside is home to a lot of books — from the Belmont Library to the Powell’s on Hawthorne — but not all the books in this neighborhood are quite what they seem.
At Circa 33, what looks like a bookshelf is actually a secret entrance to the bar’s hidden speakeasy.
Inside, you’ll find a cozy drinking den with Prohibition-era memorabilia and a cocktail menu featuring Portland-made liquors. But first you have to get in.
To swing open the bookshelf, search for the right book, turn to the first page, and enter a code into the keypad.
Private parties have their own unique code, but “The Speak” is open to the public every other Thursday — no code needed.
