Earlier this week, we highlighted food critic Kevin Alexander’s argument that the “golden age of food” in America started right here in Portland — and a few of you raised skeptical eyebrows at us.
So to help build the case, we’d like to take a moment to present Exhibit B… for Belizean.
Love Belizean started as a food cart on SW 6th and Columbia, but less than 18 months in, owner Tiffany Love got an eviction notice from the city.
That could have been the end of the road for Love Belizean, but hundreds of the cart’s biggest fans stepped up to help keep it in business.
Check out our video to get the full scoop on Love Belizean and the Kickstarter campaign that helped turn it into a brick-and-mortar restaurant.
And if you’re in the mood for some Caribbean soul food, we’re told that the “fall-off-the-bone” chicken and coconut rice combo is a fan favorite.
Note: Love Belizean is currently only open for lunch on weekdays, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
