But believe it or not, support for LGBTQ rights wasn’t always widespread in our state.
In 1992, nearly 44 percent of Oregon voters supported a ballot measure that would have required all levels of government, including public schools, to recognize homosexuality as “abnormal, wrong, unnatural and perverse.”
And even more recently, Oregonians approved a ballot measure that defined marriage as being between one man and one woman. (That law stood for 10 years before it was ruled unconstitutional.)
The fight for LGBTQ equality still faces hurdles in Portland, but there’s a lot of progress to honor this weekend — and a lot of ways to celebrate.

After spending the past few weeks getting to know the Hood Canal and meeting people in the area, we’ve fallen in love.
ReachNow, the PNW-based car-sharing company, sponsored our first summer adventure and encouraged us to get out of town. So we grabbed a bag of marshmallows, picked up our BMW, and hit the road.
